King of the Castle - 22nd July

This saturday! Best trick on the hip, bowl competition. Free entry, gates open at 11am, £150 pounds worth of prizes.

A word on Lighting - 26th September 2006

There's currently a problem with the lighting, in that only two of the floodlights are working. However, the park management tell me that they are in the process of getting the rest of them fixed. Hopefully it shuold be sorted in time for the onset of winter time next month.

Skateboard Comp - 26th August 2006

Amoeba skateshop in Skipton have organised a competition on the 26th. For more information, email amoeba_skipton@hotmail.co.uk

Family Skate Sessions

During August, every tuesday and thursday morning (except tuesday 22nd) will be devoted to family skate sessions. These will run from 9:00am to 10:30am, subject to weather of course. It is aimed at 5-10 year olds who must be accompanied by an adult. The park will be closed to other users during these sessions, so this will be an ideal opportunity for any young kids who've been wanting to visit the park to come along and enjoy themselves in a safe environment.

Grand Opening Details

The Grand Opening is this weekend. See the poster for Details.

All of the snagging is now done, the safety rail by the spine has been modified to allow better lines, and the park is being heavilly sessioned every day.

Handover Day

Today, the park is being handed over by the builders, i.e. the building is finished! There are a few minor bits on the snagging list to be sorted, some railings to be adjusted and things like that, but nothing major. On monday we briefly tested the park (for Health and Safety reasons) and it all seems to flow together properly. Pics here

The gates will remain locked while the final few things are getting sorted out, but the park will be open for use in the very near future.

Official Opening Jam 29th April

The official opening jam has been confirmed for the 29th April. Format TBC but should involve music/bands, some sort of prizes or product toss and a general good time. Watch this space for more details.

30th March 2006 - Plaza Pics

I've not managed to get any pics for a few weeks, for various reasons, hopefully these should make up for it. We're really close now, just a couple more weeks to go.

10th March 2006

A miserable week for the builders, with snow, ice and rain, so not a whole lot new to see. What we did see was some gouges in the bowl where people had used it before it was properly dry. Nice one. Fortunately, nothing too major, but please, wait until it's finished.

Most of the work done this week was to fencing and the floor, so nothing too spectacular to show you. However the minis are finished and looking very nice indeed. The transition end now actually looks like a skatepark rather than a building site!

In other news, the official opening ceremony has been pencilled in for April 29th, with bands and various other goings on; watch this space.

3rd March 2006

Oh yes...the bowl has been sprayed and is complete! Most of the transitioned section is nearly there as well, and work on the plaza is now well under way. See the curves

Oh, and please, please be patient for the rest of the park to be finished. It takes up to a week for concrete to harden properly, so please don't be tempted to try to skate any of the park yet. Other parks have had parts ruined when they were skated too soon, which only ends up making the opening date even later as the damage has to be repaired.

27th February 2006

The work has moved back to the street end of the park now. Concrete spraying due to start any day now, weather permitting. Pics Here

19th February 2006

So the project has now overrun it's estimated timescale, and it's still going to be quite some time until it's finished. I'm thinking it could well take another 6-8 weeks before it's open. Unfortunately, winter is the worst time of year for pouring concrete. On the plus side, it's is also the worst time of year for skating. Anyhow, it's still moving on so no worries. You know the drill...

14th February 2006

Laura and I were down the site on friday. Check out the bank and kerbs! It's still looking like being a good month until completion, depending on the weather.

8th February 2006

While I was away last week, some buddies of mine dropped by the park and took some pics. Cheers guys! I should be down later this week to get some more. Watch the usual space...

23rd January 2006

I'm off snowboarding for a week, so the next update wont until somewhere around the 10th of feburary.

20th January 2006 - Week 11

Some disapointing news this week; the builders have announced that the project is approximately 4 weeks behind schedule, which means that the park now won't be ready until the back end of march. While this is disapointing, with the weather being lousy at this time of year, we probably wont loose too much useable time.

In good news, the mini ramps and funbox have been roughly shaped, ready for the reinforced concrete to go on top, and you can start to get a good view of how it will look. Concrete pouring for the bowl platform and retaining wall is due to start today (friday). Pics, as ever, in the gallery

14th January 2006 - End of Week 10

Happy new year, happy new pics.
